Teaching Objectives:

By using KWLS model, students will be able to

1.     review the passage and reinterpret the detailed information and analyze the features of language in the given text;

2.     reconstruct the plot framework for the continuation writing by using the learnt language skills.


Teaching difficult points

2.     How to encourage students to share and communicate what they have learnt


Teaching procedures:

1.     Lead-in

2.     What I have known

❆T lets Ss analyze the given text by the following four aspects

Characters

What are the main characters? What features do they have?

What is the relationship between the main characters?

Conflicts and Changes

What is the conflict that the main characters want to solve?

What are the changes in the plot and Tom’s mood?

Supplementary Information

What important messages do A0 and B0 convey?

Which sentences can be echoed? 

Which sentences are essential to writing?

Theme

What are high-frequency words, phrases, or sentences with similar meanings ?

What kind of themes does the repetitive content convey?

Grammar structure(主动被动语态/ 非谓语动词/ 独立主格结构的使用)

Sentence structure(原文简单句、复合句、特殊句式如强调、虚拟、倒装的使用)

2)Modify the sentences

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

1. Tom Young was on his way home from a hard day’s work at a construction site, carrying his worn-out hammer which had accompanied him through thick and thin. With each step, his mind was filled with worry as he racked his brain to find money for his seriously ill son, Andrew, who was in great need of heart surgery.

2. Tom had run out of choices and time. Desperation was beginning to set in, but he refused to let his son suffer helplessly. As he walked, the weight of his troubles pressed heavily on his shoulders. So desperate was he that he even heard a hum in his ears. The next moment the hum was entirely covered by a loud sound.

3. He turned in shock, and what he saw took his breath away. An expensive luxury car was wrapped around a big tree on the other side of the street, with its front twisted and flames starting to spring up from the car.

4. Without a second thought, he ran to the flaming car. He noticed that although the young lady in the driver's seat did not seem to have been severely injured—apparently because of the open airbag-she was unconscious. Tom saw that the flames began to grow increasingly intense. He realized that he had to get the girl out of the car immediately because there was a high risk of the vehicle exploding at any time.

5. He grabbed the handle and pulled it, but the door was bent and did not open. He used all his strength and tried again, but in vain. It was a sports car, so it had only two doors, and the other one was blocked by the tree. He decided that he had to break the glass to take her out as quickly as possible. He struck it forcefully with his fist but realized that there was no way he could break the thick glass with bare hands, and the flames were getting bigger.
