二. 描述非常短暂的时间内发生的动作或变化
1. in a flash/ in a split of second / in an instant一瞬间
2. in the blink of an eye/in a twinkling 眨眼之间
3. within the span of a second 短短一秒钟内
4. almost immediately 几乎立刻
Eg. Everything happened in a flash and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
一切都发生在一瞬间,我简直难以置信。
Eg. Almost immediately after she finished her performance, the audience burst into thunderous cheers and applause.
她几乎刚一完成表演,观众就爆发出雷鸣般的欢呼声和掌声。
三. 描述经过一段似乎很漫长的时间后发生的情况
1. After what seemed like a century, +主句.
2. after seeming a long time
3. It seemed like ages before sb. did sth. 过了很久才...
Eg. After what seemed like a century, the phone finally rang and broke the silence.
似乎过了很久,电话终于响了,打破了寂静。
四. 强调时间的流逝及事件的紧迫性
1. With time ticking by, +主句. 随着时间一分一秒地过去,...
2. With time/the hours flying by, +主句. 时间飞逝, ...
3. With the clock relentlessly ticking, +主句. 时钟无情地滴答作响,...
4. As the seconds raced by, +主句 随着秒针飞快地转动,...

五. 描述在特定时刻发生的动作或事件
1. at the critical moment 在那关键的时刻
2. at the very moment /just at that moment/ exactly at that moment就在那时
3. It was at the/that moment that... (强调句) 就在此时...
Eg. It was at that moment that the doorbell rang, breaking the awkward silence in the room.

六. ★用于连接两个时间相近的事件 (难度较高)
1. on/upon sth/doing sth,+主句. 一... 就... on/upon my arrival/ on arriving, ... 一到达就... on/upon hearing..., ... 一听说...就...
Eg. On his arrival at the station, he spotted a familiar figure waving from the crowd.
他一到车站,就看见人群中有个熟悉的身影在挥手。
On hearing that he’d won the prize, a wide smile spread across his face, eyes shining with disbelief and joy.

2. at the sight of/at the thought of/ at the idea of/at the sound of..., ... 一看到/想到/听到...就...
Eg. At the sight of the lost puppy, she knelt down immediately, patting her legs softly to call it over.
看到走失的小狗,她立刻跪下来,轻轻地拍着腿叫它过来。
3. the moment/second/minute/instant +句子,+主句. 一... 就...
Eg. The moment the bell rang, the students dashed out of the classroom.

Eg. Immediately she got the news, she burst into tears.

Eg. The boy was about to reach for the apple when the branch shook and it fell.

8. Hardly had sb. done sth. when sb. did sth. (倒装句) 一... 就...
Eg. Hardly had they entered the forest when they heard a strange noise.
他们刚走进森林,就听到了奇怪的声音。
9. No sooner had sb. done sth. than sb. did sth. (倒装句) 一... 就...
Eg. No sooner had the last note of the piano faded than a soft applause broke out from the corner of the room.

七. 最后 finally, eventually, ultimately
Eg. Ultimately, he summoned the courage to confront her fears and walked into the dark forest alone.
最终,他鼓起勇气面对她的恐惧,独自走进了黑暗的森林。
The journey was long and difficult, but eventually they reached the top of the mountain and were rewarded with a breathtaking view.
