Step2 Before reading
1. Tip1: Text features can help us understand the passage better.
2. Present the text features of a fable: A traditional short story that teaches a moral lesson and is easy to understand.
3. Present pictures of the six fables and tell their titles.
Step3 While reading
1. Present the main points of a fable: characters(who), plot(what & how) and theme(what/why).
2. Tip2: Pay attention to the pictures to predict the story and guess the meaning of the word.
3. Find out who, what, how, what/why in chapter1.
4. Tip3:Pay attention to the actions.
1) Find out the crow’s actions and evaluate it.
2) Find out the crow’s actions in para4, circle the verbs and sense how the crow’s feelings changed.
5. Discuss in pairs to finish the worksheet: Find out who, what, how, what/why in chapter2-6.
6. Tip4:Pay attention to the topic sentence in chapter 4 and chapter5.
7. Find out the differences in characters: animals and common person.
8. Instruct Ss to find out the figure of speech which is used in a fable and give some examples.
9. Find out the similarities of the six fables.
1) The same theme: creative thinking counts.

3) What qualities do the characters have in common?
10. Tip7:Pay attention to the words.
1) Find out the hippo’s and elephant’s words in chapter6, think how they felt when saying these words. Read their words with emotion.
2) Find out the turtle’s words in chapter6, think how it felt when saying these words. Read its words with emotion.
11. Tip8:Guess the meaning of the word from the context.
Example: Chapter3: the last but one paragraph

Step4 Post reading
1. Enjoy a short video about creative thinking in life.
2. Introduce some famous creative thinkers in history and ask Ss to think what qualities they have.
3. Group work: Think creatively and discuss with each other how to solve the problem—There are too many books on the desks at school.
