Monkey city 教学设计

Teaching aim:

I. After reading, the students can find out the reason why there are so many monkeys in Lop Buri.

2.Students learn how to live harmoniously with animals.

3. Students can think deeply about how to protect the animals and think of some ways to solve the  problems .

Teaching steps:

1. Warming up

  Look at the cover of the book. Ask the questions: What can you see on the cover? / What is the title?/ Is        the city different from others? In which way? /What do you expect to read in the book?

2. Careful reading

 Divide the passage into four parts. Lead the students to read each part carefully.

 Part 1. About the city P2-3

 Listen to the tape carefully and answer : In What way is Lop Buri in Thailand special?

   There are about 1000 monkeys in this city. The monkeys seem to rule the city.

 Part 2. About monkeys everywhere P 4-5

  Read with the tape, and think about the following:

   1. Why did monkeys keep coming back to the city?

Maybe there was plenty of food in the city.

People were kind to them.

The city was a perfect place for them to live in......

 2.What do many people come to see in the city? And why?

  They come to see an old building in the city. Because a large group of monkeys live by it.

  Part 3.About problems for the monkeys P6-9

 1.What are the problems monkeys have to face?

   They get sick, hurt or even killed.

  2. Why are the monkeys important to the city?

    They help bring visitors to the city.

  3. Why do you think it is important for visitors to come to the city?

    Because if more visitors come to the city, there will be more money .And local people can spend the money on monkeys. (students' own answers.)

  Part 4. About the monkey hospital and the monkey feast P10-13

   1.How do people in the city help to take care of monkeys?

     They build a hospital for the monkeys.

   2. Can you think of a way a sick monkey could be caught?

     Be kind and patient enough to them.

     Give them some food that they like.

   3. Why is there a feast for the monkeys? Do you think it’s a good idea?

     To show "thank you" to the monkeys

3. Group work 

 Draw a mind map and try to retell Monkey City

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                     

 

 

 

         Based on the mind-map, introduce the book Monkey City.

4. Further thinking:

  1.Work in groups of four and choose one leader.

  2.Talk about whether you think it is a good idea to have monkeys in the city and say reasons to   support your idea.

  3.Write down your reasons in2 minutes.

  4.Give the paper to the next group.

5.Summary

 Ask the students what they have learned in this lesson . And make a conclusion--Animals are   people's friends. If you treat them kindly, they will also be kind to you. We should live with them harmoniously because we share the same earth with them.

6. Homework

  Make a poster about the topic after class.
